St Marys College, SulthanBathery, the pioneering higher education institution of Wayanad district, was established in the year 1965 by Rev. Fr. Mathai Nooranal of Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church,which has its headquarters at Kottayam, Kerala. The Church has the credit of being instrumental in establishing the first institution of higher education in India—Cotym College—in its Seminary at Kottayam in 1815. HH Baselios Poulose II is the ‘Educational Agency’ of the College.
